A little YouTube holiday cheer

If for some reason you woke up today just craving some IT security-themed Christmas music, fear no more, as the folks at PGP and Symantec have granted your wish.

The two security vendors have posted separate YouTube videos set to the “12 Days of Christmas” tune - except they’ve essentially replaced “turtle doves” with trojans and “swans” with spam. Parodying this classic melody with some comic relief is nothing new, but it’s always funny to hear people try it with a new theme.

Of the two, PGP’s video is much more entertaining, mainly because it features real live characters, as well as some decent edits and a gangsta-like singer dressed in a wool hat and shades.

The Symantec version sounds like it was farmed out to a professional singer - or at least someone with a better voice than the PGP gang. Only problem is, there’s no humans, but at least you can follow along the lyrics at the bottom of the screen.

OK - I better stop. I’m starting to sound like Ebert and Roeper here.

If anything, they are both entertaining. And anytime info security can be mixed with humor, I’m all for it.

So enjoy.
