Attack of the penguin

Visitors to the Delaware County (Indiana) website were visited by an unusual guest on Wednesday: a gun-toting penguin masked with a red handkerchief and cowboy hat, and the word “HACKED.”

The same hacker struck six months ago, according to this report from The Star-Press of Muncie, Ind., and the attack was likely not a response to the threat of rising property taxes.

The hack was first noticed at 8:30 a.m., and the entire site was shut down as a response. Realtors and abstract companies were mostly affected, because they use the site to retrieve property and tax information, according to the report.

If you do some Googling, it appears the attack was more widespread than just Delaware County.

Forget the ethical hackers, as one commenter said in response to the story, “Now, where is Batman when you need him?”
