Personal info of 90,000 breached at Stony Brook University

Thank you, anonymous tipster.

That’s who turned in the latest item on our overflowing list of data breaches in to officials.

The personal information of nearly 80,000 students, faculty and alumni of Long Island’s Stony Brook University were accessible to the public from April 10 to 24 after they were posted to the Health Sciences Center library website.

The files were mistakenly placed on a publicly accessible portion of the site during a reconfiguration. The state university does not believe the info has been used criminally.

The university set up a tipline and advised affected users to place a fraud alert on credit files on its website.
